Amazon is still awful: Daily Bullshit, December 19, 2016

Amazon

Whenever I walk into Coddingtown Mall in Santa Rosa, it’s nearly deserted—even in the height of Christmas shopping season. I hear the big box stores are more crowded. But traditional “brick and mortar” outlets must surely be doomed.

In their place arises Amazon, with labor practices that are apparently and unrelentingly even more abusive than Wal-Mart’s.[1] I don’t know what to do. I shop at Amazon as well, even being well aware of their abuses. Increasingly I feel I have no choice. It’s become too hard to find stuff at local retailers and their prices are often high.

Unemployment

We can ask why, if conditions are so awful at Amazon, anyone would work there. Here’s part of the answer.

Hopefully, it is now over.
