9th Circuit: Unauthorized migrant children are entitled to bail hearings: Daily Bullshit, July 5, 2017

There is a new blog post, “Thoughts on the 5th of July,” up.

Unauthorized Migration

Admittedly, I have a very different baseline for what society should be.[1] I do not start from Sigmund Freud’s Hobbesian horde hell in which entire family units existed to serve a powerful father.[2]

So it seems to me beyond challenge that children should be entitled to maximum protection in the courts. But it appears that the Obama and Trump administrations disagreed.[3] Which strikes me as incredibly evil. Fortunately, the 9th Circuit ruled that children accused of being unauthorized migrants are entitled to bail hearings.[4] Which seems to me to be probably not even the barest minimum that we should be doing.

And I’m trying to fathom just what the Obama and Trump administrations had in mind for these kids. Really, now. And no bullshit about how they’re being extra careful to reunite families in Central American countries please. Because what that will surely really mean is kicking them off the planes at their supposed countries’ largest airports.
