So I began paying attention with the U.S. Postal Service assuring the country that it had “ample capacity to adjust our nationwide processing and delivery network to meet projected Election and Political Mail volume, including any additional volume that may result as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”[1] The question arose as Donald Trump appears intentionally to be handicapping the Postal Service’s ability to do just that[2] and now the Postal Service says, in effect, that it was already in trouble on this front before Trump went to work.[3] At the very least, all this is likely part of Trump’s campaign to cast doubt on an election he seems ever more likely to lose, and therefore to attempt to maneuver to remain in office regardless, most likely through shenanigans involving the electoral college.[4]
