Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday said he had “no doubt” that an explosion that killed two men in Poland was caused by a missile fired by Russia.

Western leaders concluded that the missile was likely to be part of Ukrainian air defences against Tuesday’s relentless bombardment of Ukraine by Vladimir Putin’s army.

Moscow launched 90 missiles and more than 10 drone strikes against Ukraine, which led to earlier accusations that the explosion four miles across the Polish border was Russia’s fault.

But the president of Ukraine insisted it had evidence of a “Russian trace” in the explosion, which briefly threatened to put Moscow and Nato on the brink of war.

“I have no doubt that it was not our missile,” Mr Zelensky said. “I believe that it was a Russian missile based on the credibility of the reports of the military.”[2]

One of the lessons we should have learned from World War II is that the path to peace does not lie through appeasing an imperialist, for the imperialist only comes back for more. Appeasement allows for a possibility that the imperialist has some legitimate reason for his aggression. It ratifies and rewards that aggression.

We are letting Vladimir Putin off the hook much, much, much too easily here.
