Get ready for Donald Trump. By a landslide on the order of 1984.

When I was a kid, it was pretty common to say, “Any boy can grow up to be president.” It was ridiculous then, as it is now. Money—and lots of it—is a prerequisite to any political campaign, then as now, because James Madison understood democracy as ‘mob rule,’ threatening to deprive the wealthy (often slaveholders) of their property.[1] But it’s clearly close enough to true that the warning, “be careful what you ask for,” comes to mind.

It’s really looking like the battle to persuade Joe Biden to step aside is lost.[2] So, get ready for Donald Trump. Trump will be elected in November—this is now beyond question—I think probably by a landslide on the order of 1984, when Ronald Reagan, running for re-election, blew out Walter Mondale, who won only his home state of Minnesota (by a mere few thousand votes) and the District of Columbia.[3]
