To state the obvious, Elon Musk taking over Twitter is not just about Musk taking over a social network

I finally broke down and created a page with all the articles I’ve archived in this long, sorry saga. I have not yet decided to categorize it under Gilead, but we’ll see what happens: Greg Sargent points to a number of risks, including that Twitter may become far friendlier for the competitive authoritarian regime project and to illiberalism generally.[3]

I guess what I would say about Twitter alternatives[4] is that none of them really hit the spot for me. I have set up a Discord server (contact me for an invitation) and, as of now, I think this is the closest I’m going to get. What you do with Discord is sign up with servers that seem interesting, on a similar theory to that as you follow folks on Twitter, but they each have their own feeds, usually more than one, and there’s no way to combine these feeds into a single feed anything like you have on Twitter or Facebook.

Every time I look at Mastodon, I’m perplexed as to which server to sign up with and, to be honest, not really comfortable with any of them. In theory, I could start my own, but my experience with this sort of project is that you really need database expertise to fix the problems that inevitably crop up, and I don’t.
