If I’m understanding correctly, I might be able to replace my hybrid battery, when it fails, if it takes long enough to fail, with a solid state battery that would likely improve my gas mileage and performance dramatically. Of course, there’s still a question of whether my car will even last that long—Toyota optimistically estimates the battery will be available in 2027 or 2028, but I’m putting on 65,000 miles per year.[1] And probably, I’d ultimately be better off with their promised electric car, eliminating internal combustion altogether.[2]
