I have understood the “Never Trump” movement primarily to be neoconservative and there isn’t much in Ben Jacobs’ article that would dispel that. He argues that a better understanding of a “rank and file” “Never Trump” movement is needed,[1] and I would have to agree: I’ve doubted that neoconservatives even exist outside the Beltway.
I suspect the “rank and file” “Never Trump” movement probably does not align neatly with neoconservatism. But they’re likely voting Democratic in 2024[2] and that’s another reason to think Republicans are cruising for a bruising.
