When it’s anti-Semitic to protest killing, anti-Semitism isn’t the problem

There is a significant update to my recent post, “4:00 a.m. thoughts: The paradox of veganism.”

Ishaan Tharoor points out that the hue and cry over campus demonstrations diverts attention from Israel’s crimes in Gaza.[2] It’s a red herring: We aren’t really upset about war crimes. We’re upset about the protests against war crimes. Meanwhile, as if in response, Binyamin Netanyahu is ratcheting up his defiance not only, supposedly,[3] of Joe Biden but of the entire world[4] and more substantively threatening Rafah.[5]

Like I said, when it’s anti-Semitic to protest killing, anti-Semitism isn’t the problem.

Russia

Fig. 1. Historic Russian empire, from the New York Times, possibly March 6, 2014, fair use.[6]

Vladimir Putin seeks to remold Russia. Women are to have babies and lots of them. Men are to fight for Putin’s empire. LGBTQ+ is “extremist.” The U.S. is “terrorist.” Education will consist of military preparation and indoctrination in traditionalist and imperial talking points.[7] Oh, but let’s not forget the tankies who think the only problem is the U.S. and North Atlantic Treaty Organization.[8]
