The preliminary ruling by the International Court of Justice appears as something of a Rorschach test: How you interpret it depends heavily upon your sympathies. That said, the case continues—the court didn’t throw the case out—and Israel has been ordered to prevent genocide, punish genocidal incitement, and permit more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. A number of analysts, including the bulk consulted by Just Security, seem to see it as a win for South Africa. And it does raise awkward issues for Israel’s Western backers.[2]
